Why is prayer important?

Prayer is important because it is a supernatural tool that enables us to get access toI Heart Prayer everything that God has already given us out of the spirit realm, into the natural realm. According to Ephesians 1:3, God has blessed us with all spiritual blessings in heavenly places in Christ. Therefore, prayer is of utmost importance in the life of a believer.

Many of us do not take advantage of this powerful tool. There are a countless number of Christians who always talk about waiting on God to heal them, to heal and restore their marriages, finances, to protect their children, etc., instead of asking God through prayer. They would rather talk to others about their circumstances than talk to God. James 3:1b says, “ye have not because you ask not.” It is, therefore, important for us to ask God for the things we need through prayer. God has already said in Philippians 4:19, “But my God shall supply all your need according to his riches in glory by Christ Jesus” (KJV).

Did Jesus encourage us to pray?

In Matthew 7: 7-11, Jesus said “Ask, and it shall be given you; seek, and ye shall find; knock, and it shall be opened unto you: For every one that asketh receiveth; and he that seeketh findeth; and to him that knocketh it shall be opened. Or what man is there of you, whom if his son ask bread, will he give him a stone? Or if he asks a fish, will he give him a serpent? If ye then, being evil, know how to give good gifts unto your children, how much more shall your Father which is in heaven give good things to them that ask him?” (KJV). In this passage, Jesus makes it clear to us that if we, parents, are able to give our children the things they ask for, then we should be motivated to pray because God who is a good and a father who loves us unconditionally, will definitely give us what we ask him.

Also, in Luke 18:1 Jesus said, “Also [Jesus] told them a parable to the effect that they ought always to pray and not to turn coward (faint, lose heart, and give up). ” (Amplified) We should not be afraid to ask God for what we need. God loves us, and we all know that He is a giver. John 3:16 tells us that He gave his only begotten son so that those who believe in him should not perish, but have everlasting life. Also, we should not feel intimidated by the challenges that we may be faced with because we have God on our side; and greater is he that’s in us than he that’s in the world. Prayer should not be the last resort. Whenever we are faced with circumstances that seem impossible to fix, prayer should be the number one thing to do. Prayer will alleviate fear, and confusion because it allows God to intervene and bring about change. Thus, the Bible

The following scriptures encourage us to realize the importance of prayer in the life of a Christian.

  1. Mark 11:24 says “Therefore I say unto you, what things soever ye desire, when ye pray, believe that ye receive them, and ye shall have them.” (KJV)
  2. 1 Peter 3:12a says, “For the eyes of the Lord are upon the righteous (those who are upright and in right standing with God), and His ears are attentive to their prayer.” (Amplified)
  3. Psalms 34:17 says, “When the righteous cry for help, the Lord hears, and delivers them out of all their distress and troubles.” (Amplified)
  4. Proverbs 15:29 says, “The Lord is far from the wicked: but he heareth the prayer of the righteous.” (KJV)

Thus, the Bible encourages the exercise of prayer and promises that we shall receive the things we are asking of God.
